Exoticar started in 1992 while I was doing Marketing and PR work at Bloomsbury's in Cape Town. After a couple of enquiries about renting Lotus's and Ferrari's, Ashley Landman, then owner of Bloomsbury's said: "Harding, we are a sales company, not a rental company. You take the rentals and do your own thing". So with his help, Exoticar was started.
The Exoticar Database started off small, but always with quality Exotics and Classics. One of the first shoots we did, was with the beautiful lime green 1958 Cadillac Convertible. We are also able to boast being the first South African online website with a database of classics, contemporary and film friendly vehicles.
Back then filming in Cape Town was seasonal and the summers were pretty busy, while the winters were dead quiet. Obviously the film industry in Cape Town grew and we now work throughout the year.
About 5 years ago I realised I could no longer be a one woman show and brought Ian Loubser on board. I chose Ian for his love and understading of the classic cars; from restoration to being able to drive them with feeling and understanding. His commitment is invaluable.
With 17 years of experience behind us, we have the largest and most comprehensive database of film vehicles in the Cape. We offer the most professional hands-on service, including delivery of vehicles to and from set, precision drivers and -riders, co-ordinating and sourcing.
We look forward to serving the Cape Town film indusry for at least another 17 years.
